The national orgy of a presidential political campaign is finally grinding to a halt on Tuesday. After spending an estimated $16,000,000,000, by the end of next week most results should be available. That price is cheap for the many billionaires that are propping up both campaigns because some of them will reap the rewards many times over.
Harris has run an impressive campaign, given it has only been a bit over three months since she declared. She has invigorated a democratic party that was stagnating, with message of hope, working together, some solid working/middle class policy suggestions, and having some fun. Trump's campaign has been far more disciplined this time around, but still it revolves around a polarizing mentally unstable pathological liar. It is safe to say that he inspires as much hate as love. That says something about our country.
I believe this election is a tipping point; towards an authoritarian or fascist state or retaining democracy as a system of governance that has proved durable, but fallible.
The rise of donald trump and his minions is a tale of the takeover of the republican party. The scramble of the democratic party to patch up years of neglect of the working class in favor of the educated has been revealed. The curtain of legitimacy has been thrust aside to show the naked machinations of the billionaires who are buying candidates.
The future is uncertain because of the major fissures in our society that have been exposed by this campaign
Arizona election returns may be slow coming in because counting mailed ballots will delay the results. The results and who won the state likely will not be ready for several days. It is a longer ballot (and more expensive to taxpayers thanks to lazy repub legislators!) this year, that will make it difficult for election officials to accurately predict when results are ready. Counties will certify local results by Nov. 25, and statewide results are certified by Dec. 2.
I will be on Mike Thornton's KBRP magazine at 9 am on Friday the 8th for a special two hour edition. We will report, analyze, maybe whine some, make fun of, election results; county, state, nation. Stream us at http://kbrpradio.com click listen live to hear our dulcet tones.
No can do early voting in person...deadline has expired; . But If you still have your mail in ballot and you live or are visiting Bisbee, you can return it to a Drop Box on or before Election Day at 1415 Melody Lane. Other vote centers can be found at https://www.cochise.az.gov/DocumentCenter/View/4575/Vote-Center-Locations-PDF It is too late to mail your ballot back. You can drop your ballot or vote at any voting center, not just the town in which you live.
Voting in Person on Tuesday Nov. 5...polls are open from 6 am to 7 pm at all voting centers. In Bisbee that is 1415 Melody Lane Bldg G (board of supes building). All other locations throughout the county are at https://www.cochise.az.gov/DocumentCenter/View/4575/Vote-Center-Locations-PDF
If you are a dem and need a ride to the polls, go here. (If a repub, stick out your thumb.) They are collecting information for those that will need a ride and we will schedule times around the county to pick you up and take you to vote at your nearest Vote Center!

................EARLY BALLOT RETURNS................
Check out the stats from Uplift to get much more info than I summarize here. Of particular interest is the female return rate of ballots surpassing males in AZ and in our county. But can't draw too many conclusions from early ballot returns, particularly in Cochise County. Dems throughout the states are leading repubs in returns and that may indicate more fervor in voting. Although note that registered repubs and indies outnumber registered dems.
While not official, these stats from Uplift indicate early ballot returns in every county for congressional, legislative, and supervisor district as well as totaled for the state, and are taken from AZ Democratic Voter files and all county recorders.
Stats as of 11/1:

WHY THE ARIZONA CORPORATE COMMISSION RACE IS IMPORTANT
A short excerpt from BIG newsletter:
"Peak power costs are passed onto consumers – not just ordinary people but businesses, for whom electricity is an input into everything. So mitigating these costs is a tremendous benefit to people and the economy writ large. There are two ways to do so: the first is to have a lot more supply, so building more power plants and connecting them to the grid, as Microsoft is doing with Three Mile Island and utilities are doing with gas plants. But the second, and much cheaper way, is to lower demand during those peak moments."

LOTSA LOANS TO THE DEMOCRATIC COUNTY ATTORNEY CANDIDATE
As mentioned last issue I didn't support Scott Eckstein for county attorney. I felt he was too new to the county, didn't have admin experience. And Zucco was well qualified, as well as not seeming to be an ideologue. Well, this is some additional info for you courtesy of a reader of the Wire. It fortifies my choice.
According to Eckstein's nomination packet, which is public information, Mr Eckstein has had 19 loans during a one year period from what can only be called payday lenders, in the period May/23 to May/24 for at least $19,000 and likely much more. Getting these kind of loans involves paying much higher interest, and because of the sources of the loans, it indicates that he couldn't get loans from a bank or regular lending institution.
The source, frequency, and amounts of loans taken out are not a good sign for a candidate that could be responsible for a $3,716,883 budget.
Ms. Zucco had not creditors listed.

Here’s a quote from the Colorado Attorney General: “If Albertsons were no good, why does Kroger want to keep so much of it? If Albertsons executives weren't going to be paid millions of dollars if the deal goes through, they would be insulted by how their lawyers talk about their business." The judge will issue a ruling on 11/15.From the newsletter BIG

You can read that coverage here and here, as well as a broader explanation of why housing reformers need to embrace the fight against corporate power here. It’s great to see more states and DoJ pile into this arena, and I also hope the plethora of lawsuits pushes more states and municipalities to follow the lead of San Francisco, which recently bannedalgorithmic rent-setting entirely.
