Hello,
On the road here in Michigan where the weather changes frequently; don't like it wait a few minutes and you'll get one of the following; sun, driving rain, mist, sprinkles, menacing dark masses of clouds, fluffy pillow clouds, or a brilliant azure sky. Lotsa of family stuff and eating lotsa good food.
I had my radical batteries recharged at the Detroit Institute of Art where a large room was filled with 27 of Diego Riveras' fresco murals. They are beautiful, majestic works of art. The main murals on the East and West wall are 26' long and about 18' tall, and capture the transformation of natural resources to industrial products & autos, by workers. For instance, in side panels he illustrated that chemicals could be good (vaccines) or bad (poison gas). There are other examples also.

Health care takes up a sixth of the economy, yet a bill was crafted (using that term loosely) in secret by 13 men, all over 60. The details are below in a series of articles. I believe Senators will come back from yet another vacation and will have have papered over some of the more odious measures and schedule a quick vote. They cannot have transparency and hearings and amendments because the bill is so bad and so much money is transferred to the wealthy that they cannot defend it.
I rarely venture onto Facebook because of the flaming (an early internet word that was reserved for people who dissed other people) that goes on. However one guy, Richard Butler Mosher whom I do not know, accused iBisbee members of having an ideology of development, unspecified conflicts of interest, as well as having no allegiance to the community, and no procedures in place for identifying gentrification of which he said was taking place. I defended the committee, at length, and asked for specifics which I never got. We had a long exchange.Would like any of you to read it and see if I was wrong in my responses. It certainly is possible that I am out to lunch and would like to know so if I am. It is here. Likely have to scroll down to June 22 entry by Mosher. https://www.facebook.com/groups/809270292453033/permalink/1391537514226305/?comment_id=1424118687634854&reply_comment_id=1438369319543124¬if_t=group_comment_mention¬if_id=1498788020521509

KAREN SCHUMACHER'S TAKE ON DETROIT
The director of the Bisbee Craft School FB post about Detroit is most excellent. https://www.facebook.com/karen.schumacher
Detroit is beautiful and sad and strange and awesome.
And it is those things for strikingly similar reasons that Bisbee could be described in the same terms- both places giving off the charged feeling that they are simultaneously falling down and being rebuilt.
Here too there are houses falling over, an air of emptiness due to declining populations, and yet coffee shops and art galleries are popping up like day-glo weeds through the crumbling urban asphalt-colored landscape and empty spaces ooze creative opportunity- Detroit seems to be straddling the precipice between success and failure like a drunk tightrope walker. Much like my beloved home.
But the difference is that terms like "blight" and "gentrification" are real live breathing monsters in Detroit- displacing and destroying portions of its citizenry- while in Bisbee it seems they are often just misunderstood words used mostly out of context to scare each other into adhering to an out-dated status quo- like a bedtime story told with an overly obvious moral to an insolent child.
I'm not saying these things don't exist for Bisbee and that these things can't get worse, but in comparison to almost anywhere else, especially a major city- our problems seem almost.. cute. And they seem refreshingly surmountable.
My point is that we often forget how good we have it.

79 RURAL HOSPITALS AND CARE CENTERS CLOSED IN THE PAST 7 YEARS
According to the Sheps Center, (http://www.shepscenter.unc.edu/) three of the closed facilities were in Arizona. The now-delayed Senate bill would likely exacerbate this problem because of the cuts in Medicaid.

HEALTH CARE; RICH GET RICHER, THE POOR...DIE.
"America’s wealthiest taxpayers (earning more than $200,000 a year, $250,000 for couples) would get a tax cut totaling $346bn over 10 years, representing what they save from no longer financing healthcare for lower-income Americans."

WHY MEDICAID CUTS TO MEDICAID ARE IMPORTANT
This article from centerforhealthjournalism.org illustrates some of the problems stemming from proposed cuts to Medicaid. (This site is also a good source of info on what is happening in health care. If you happen to know an aspiring journalist, they have fellowships available.)
"...Medicaid’s untold story also includes Americans who have received benefits under the traditional Medicaid program — for example, the millions of middle class families who’ve come to rely on it to fund long-term care for a family member. Medicaid pays for about half of all nursing home stays. That’s another subject that’s been missing from the media until this past week. GOP proposals to slice more than $800 billion from the Medicaid program mean that states will have much less money to funnel into nursing home and other forms of care for the elderly in their communities."

THE OBSOLESCENCE OF AIRCRAFT CARRIERS?
As a former Navy guy who toiled as an electrician on tankers that refueled carriers at sea-a stunning sight-I'm casually interested in how the Navy is evolving. (I was also the 'motion picture operator' of our ship and selected movies for when we were out to sea for a month.)
The tremendous amount of money that this government throws at 'defense' has become indefensible. This article talks about the possible vulnerability of a carrier not yet build. As with some missile systems, there are worries about the fundamental readiness to defend the mission of providing sea and land support.

KEN BURNS AND A VIETNAM WAR DOCUMENTARY
Many of us have been shaped by the Vietnam War and much of the division in the country can be traced back to that horrible conflict. This documentary should be a definitive look at what transpired and how it has impacted the people of the US and Vietnam.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><> PORN STATS WARNING: You may not want to read this if you are easily shocked or don't like public discussions about Sex.
This article and the accompanying stats discusses the changes in sex, sexuality, viewing, talking, and doing, Sex. It explores the dialectical relationship between viewer and viewed.
"For we are living in a golden age of sexual creativity — an erotic renaissance that is, I believe, unprecedented in human history. Today you can, in a matter of minutes, see more boners than the most orgiastic member of Caligula’s court would see in a lifetime. This is, in itself, enough to revolutionize sexual culture at every level. But seeing isn’t even the whole story — because each of us also has the ability to replicate, share, and reinvent everything we see. Taken as a whole, this vast trove of smut is the Kinsey Report of our time, shedding light on the multiplicity of erotic desires and sexual behaviors in our midst."
